Dick Graham Posted: January 24, 2016 - 12:00am Dick Graham, 65, of Amarillo, died Thursday, January 21 at his ranch near Clarendon, TX. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 25 in First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo, 1100 S. Harrison. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Richard Earl “Dick” Graham was born in Amarillo on May 22, 1950 to Aubrey Lloyd “Al” Graham and Mildred Simpson Graham. A gifted athlete, Dick was well known for his football playing days. After graduating from Amarillo High School where he played quarterback for the Sandies, he continued with a successful college football career at Oklahoma State University. A tenacious player, Dick played offense, defense and special teams while at OSU, earning his name in several sections of the record book. He was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the 1971 NFL draft. Dick married his high school sweetheart, Cherry Hyso, on June 3, 1972. After living in Oklahoma City, they returned to Amarillo and together raised two children, a son, Cody and a daughter, Allison. As a General Contractor and Developer, Dick impacted the lives of many in Amarillo. He was committed to enhancing the community and beautifying neighborhoods while supporting local businesses and craftsmen in all his endeavors. Always a sports fan and advocate for youth sports, Dick served as a loyal and faithful board member for the Amarillo based Kids, Inc. youth sports organization for 20 years. He led the effort in the expansion and development of facilities for the organization. His love of children was evident in every aspect of his life. Dick was an avid sportsman. He passes his love of the outdoors to his children and grandchildren, all of whom he taught to hunt. The family ranch was is a special place for “DG” and his family. Dick was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served on various committees. Dick was proceeded in death by his father, “Al” Graham and mother, Mildred Graham Kielpinski. He is survived by his wife, Cherry; his son, Cody Graham and wife Jamie; his daughter, Allison Teuscher and husband Luke; his grandchildren, Corbin, Blake and Chandler Graham; Abigail and Andrew Teuscher; his stepfather, Phil Kielpinski, all above of Amarillo; and two brothers, Bill Graham of Dallas and Alan Graham of Huntsville, TX and their families.
