Phillip "Phil" Lee Jordan: 1950-2014

Phillip “Phil” Lee Jordan, 64, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 11, 2014.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hillside Christian Church South, 6901 S. Bell St., with the Rev. Craig Albracht officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Phil was born Jan. 13, 1950, in Dumas to Omer and Dorthey Jordan. The family moved to Amarillo in 1956, where he attended Lamar Elementary School, Fannin Jr. High School and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1968. He then attended Oklahoma University. He played football for OU from 1968 until 1972, when he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance and marketing. Phil then attended and graduated from Oklahoma City University Law School in 1976 earning a Juris Doctorate. While attending law school, he was a member of Phi Delta Phi and Phi Delta Theta.

Phil’s professional career began in 1972 as a trust auditor at First National Bank in Oklahoma City, then as clerk and bailiff in the state district courthouse in Oklahoma until he moved to Amarillo in 1976, when he became the 47th District Assistant Attorney. In 1979, he went into private practice, opening Phil Jordan Law Firm.

He held many professional and civic affiliations, including State Bar of Texas, Texas State Bar Family and Criminal Law, Fellow Texas Bar Foundation, College of the State Bar of Texas, Panhandle Criminal Defense Law Association, and Panhandle Family Law Association just to name a few. He served as a board member for Children’s Rehabilitation Center and Kids, Inc. Phil also was a member of Coors Cowboy Club, University of Oklahoma O Club, Sandies Football Boosters Club and was involved in numerous other professional and civic organizations.

Phil had a zeal for life. He was creative and passionate, while exhibiting an enormous amount of perseverance. He had many loves such as attending OU games and flying. He received a pilot’s license in 1994. It was on March 26, 1987, that Phil married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Liz” Teal. It was then that his true passion was ignited and nothing would ever compare to the love he held for her, their daughters and later their families and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Judy Borchardt; and a brother, John Jordan.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Jennifer Akerman and husband John and their children, Katie, Madison and Jordan, Heather Baker and husband Russ and their children, Nathan and Sam, and Amy Wolfle and husband Tom and their children, Kyle, Chase and Alex; and two brothers, Bill Jordan and Jorge Jordan.
