AUSTIN - Phillip D. Mathews, 58, died Thursday, March 6, 2008. Photos Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Oak Hill United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery in Waco by Harrell Funeral Home of Austin. Phillip D. Mathews was born Oct. 10, 1949, and was called to the presence of the angels on March 6, 2008. Phil was born in Dalhart to William W. "Bill" and Nina Mathews. One of his first loves was music, fostered by the talent of his mother. He was an accomplished pianist, having written many songs. But his love was the joy that his music brought to others. After completing high school in Amarillo he attended the University of Texas in Austin, majoring in radio, television and production. This led to a rewarding career in multi-media productions covering everything from training films, sports events and even special events such as birthdays, anniversaries and family fun activities. His unique talent could bring out the best in interviewing and questioning people on camera. Phil loved his family, he loved his golf and he loved making people laugh. A tremendous void will be felt in the lives of those who knew him. Peggy was able to provide the nursing care needed during the final months of his battle with lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill; his mother, Nina; and two brothers, Walter and Bill Jr. Survivors include his loving wife, Peggy and her son, Jeff Reedy; a brother, Harry, of San Antonio; Peggy's father and mother, Richard and Elsie Wooten of Waco; Peggy's brother, Dick Wooten Jr. of Waco; as well as many nieces and nephews.
